If I use a sub-contractor, am I entitled to a percentage of his fee?

This depends on whether the client is paying him directly (no fee), or you are paying him (yes take commission). But remember, you are also then personally responsible for any comebacks or complaints that the client may have with his workmanship. You need to weigh this up when bringing in plumbers, electricians and builders etc.
